Serum: Why you should use one!

In an Inouïe routine you can never miss a face serum and today you will find out why.

Serums are relatively recent products in the beauty world, but they are here to stay and have already become essential for a good skin care routine.

But what exactly is a serum?

A serum is a product that is usually water-based and without occlusive ingredients (such as mineral oil), which makes them absorb faster and penetrate deeper into the skin. Furthermore, a face serum is a product highly concentrated in active ingredients such as antioxidants, vitamins, moisturizers, exfoliants or anti-aging ingredients (retinol, peptides).

When should I use a serum?

Serum should be used after cleansing/toning and before facial moisturizer. It should always be used before your face moisturizer, as moisturizers generally have heavier ingredients that can make it difficult for the serum to absorb.

You can include a face serum in both your day and night routines. There are serums that should only be used during the day, such as serums with vitamin C, and other serums that should only be used at night, such as serums with retinol.

Does a serum replace a moisturizer?

Yes and no. If you have oily skin it is possible that you can dispense with the moisturizer, for example in a day routine you could go from the serum directly to the sunscreen. If you have dry or dehydrated skin, we no longer advise you to dispense with the moisturizer, as the moisturizer will allow the skin to retain water throughout the day.

What is the best serum for me?

You should choose a face serum taking into account your skin's needs and concerns.

Mixed skin

Often combination skin is also dehydrated skin, so you will benefit from a moisturizing serum, with ingredients such as hyaluronic acid.
